Terms of Reference
In the framework of the project “New E.R.A.” funded by the European Union, Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud (CISS Egypt) is selecting an expert in pedagogy with expertise in violence against women (VAW) who will be based in Cairo with possibility of field visits within the country, especially Dakahlia, Qalyubia and New Valley Governorates.
CISS is a thirty years Italian NGO with active initiatives in the EU-Mediterranean Region, including Italy in the sectors of education, human trafficking, protection and empowerment of childhood and women, local development, CSOs enhancement.
The proposed project aims at contributing to strengthen women’s role in Egyptian society and increase gender equality in the country by promoting an aware and empowered society on women’s respect and violence against women (VAW) in El Dakhalia, Cairo, Qalyubiya and New Valley Governorates of Egypt.
Scope of Work
One of the goals of the Action is to create a sustainable method for teaching and learning able to produce durable changes in cultural attitudes towards gender equality and violence against women in the Egyptian society.
At this purpose, the Action foresees the elaboration of 1 didactic kit specifically focused on gender equality and anti-violence. The kit will be a useful toolkit for facilitators, social and youth workers in order to produce the above-mentioned change on the target group of young people (6 to 17 years old) through the implementation of specific exercises and practices, learning and teaching procedures with focus on respect, gender equality and fight against VAW.
The expert in pedagogy will work
to the elaboration of the kit.
Although its final structure will be defined together with the other experts of the team during the implementation, the kit is expected to contain several sections: definitions of the different kinds of violence; context analysis; activities to stimulate respect and equality on young people according to the age range and related exercises. The kit will be produced in English and then translated into Arabic to spread it both at national and international levels. The expert in pedagogy will be responsible for the elaboration of a set of indicators to be used to assess the effectiveness of the didactic kit.
Finally, the expert in pedagogy will also contribute according to his/her expertise to the realization of video-lessons about gender equality and VAW, games for raising awareness on children regarding the topics of the project,and training course for social and youth workers on thetopicofVAW, together with the other experts.
Main tasks and deliverables
The expert in pedagogy with expertise in VAW will:
Collaborate in a team composed by experts to elaborate the didactical anti-violence-oriented kit; Provide about 10 additional activities and relevant exercises to be inserted in the kit;
Be responsible for the production of the kit (preparing the drafts of the kit, collecting materials in English and Arabic languages and other inputs from the team experts, ensuring that the kit satisfies the decided requirements, and so on);
Participate in all the meetings (online and by presence) to communicate with the aforementioned team;
Elaborate a set of indicators to be used to assess the effectiveness of the didactic kit on children and young people;
Collaborate with the team contributing to the pedagogical aspect of the games will be ideated to raise awareness about VAW on children;
Collaborate with the team to create the video explaining how to create the games raising awareness on children about VAW;
Collaborate with the team to the creation of video-lessons about VAW, in particular elaborating video-lessons for a total of 14 hours about gender equality and VAW targeted towards young people;
Collaborate with the videomaker and the other experts teams to create the video-lessons (shooting, providing subtitles, and so on);
Collaborate with the team to elaborate the content for the training course foreseen by the project (in particular in topics such as phenomenology of violence, the victim and help seeking; the sense of impotence and burn out, psychosocial activities to prevent and fight VAW, and so on);
Support in the production of the outputs in both English and Arabic languages;
Provide to CISS interim and final reports of his/her consultancy.
Essential competences
Education:
Master’s degree in Education, Pedagogy or any other relevant field.
Experience:
- At least five years of professional experience in education/pedagogy or any other relevant field;
- At least two years of experience in conducting trainings and/or activities on gender equality,sexual violence issues and so on towards young people and children;
- Past experience of work in an international environment will be an asset.Skills:
- Demonstrated understanding of gender issues;
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Proven analytical and report writing skills and ability to write, review, and edit reports;
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams;
- Creativity, innovation and initiative;
- Result oriented;
- Fully computer literate in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multi-task;
- Excellent time management skills, with an ability to deliver high-quality outputs on time.Language: Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and English.
